FBI Arrests Wife of Orlando Nightclub Massacre Shooter Omar Mateen
On Monday, FBI has arrested the wife of Orlando Nightclub Massacre’s shooter, Omar Mateen, on suspicion of her links with the terrorist organization, ISIS.
The horrifying shootout, in which more than 45 people died, is one of the deadliest massacres in US History.
Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people single-handedly on June 12, was shot dead by the police officials after three hours of struggle.
During the attack, he showed several signs of having connections with ISIS and also chanted its slogan.
FBI along with other investigating agencies have been handling the case.
Recently, the authorities have ordered to arrest his 30-year-old wife, Noor Salman, on suspicion that she allegedly encouraged her husband in his “mission”.
As pe as sources, the agencies wanted to put a charge of directly supporting ISIS, but Acting Assistant Attorney General Mary McCord refused to support additional charges.
Reports say that the FBI agents picked Salman from outside of her home in California. She didn’t refuse or resist the arrest.
The report of the investigating agencies talks about several incidents, prior to the attack, which raised suspicion on the family. One of the incidents is from April 2016, when Omar and her wife took their 3-year-old son to Walt Disney World, but their behavior reportedly was alarming enough for Disney officials and eventually they had contacted FBI, informing about their behavior.
FBI has also found out that Omar made several calls during the attack including calls to Salman. Call lists also explain that three of them were made 911, while one was made to local news agency.
Salam has to appear in San Francisco Court today.
